As the name implies, a course in miracles is a teaching device. It teaches us what is real and what’s unreal, and leads us into the direct experience of our own Inner Teacher.
The training course is arranged in three parts: a text, a workbook for students and a guide for teachers. The Text presents the concepts underlying the program. The workbook includes 365 daily lessons that provide students the opportunity to use and experience the concepts on a practical level. The instructor’s guide is presented in a question and answer format, addressing common questions that a student may ask; it also gives a clarification of terms used throughout the program.
Helen was the scribe for the program, writing down in shorthand the inner messages she received. It took a total of seven years to finish A Course in Miracles, which was first published in 1976 in america.

Experiencing the Program
The training course is intended to be a self-study tool. But many students find their initial interaction with the material is hard and overwhelming – the shift in perspective that it provides is contrary to conventional thinking. Taking an introductory course with a trained facilitator or instructor allows for a milder opening to these new ideas and a more satisfying experience.
There are numerous courses and courses of study based upon the doctrine of A Course in Miracles, as well as particular classes on key Course theories, such as True Forgiveness or Cause and Effect. Such courses give students the opportunity to have the concept and application of particular material more deeply. Through such profound experience, many students find the reassurance of inner peace and the joy of knowing that the Inner Teacher.
“This training course is a beginning, not an end… No more particular lessons are delegated, for there is not any more need of them. Henceforth, listen to but the Voice for God… He will direct your efforts, telling you just what to do, the way to direct your thoughts, and when to come to Him in silence, asking for His sure leadership and His particular Word (Workbook, p. 487).
A Course in Miracles is so pure, so wonderful, so powerful, so much more spiritually advanced than any other bit of the world’s literature (present and past ), which you have to really experience it to believe it. But those whose minds are attached to worldly ideas, and lack the inherent thirst for authentic spiritual knowledge that’s essential for its own understanding, will probably not comprehend just one whole page. That isn’t because A Course in Miracles is confusing – on the contrary its fundamentals are remarkably easy – but rather because it’s the essence of spiritual knowledge that those that aren’t prepared to understand it, simply can’t understand it.
